Company History

SBM & Associates was founded in 1998. The company has worked with pediatric and adult hospitals and outpatient surgery centers to review and improve operational efficiencies, improve utilization of resources, ensure quality, promote collaboration with surgeons and enhance customer / staff satisfaction in perioperative/procedural services departments.

We have assembled a team whose experience spans all aspects of the clinical/operational processes associated with perioperative surgery. From pre-admission testing through PACU recovery, our integrated process improvement methodology is designed to engage and lead your staff to improved efficiency of perioperative services.

Company Bios

Sharon B. Morselander, RN, MBA, CNOR - Sharon has more than 25 years of Perioperative experience with the majority in operations and management. As a Perioperative consultant, Sharon's expertise includes assessment and process improvement, restructuring of Perioperative/surgical services, strategic assessment/new construction, interim management, cost management and Procedural Services process improvement. Sharon focuses on the continuum and integration of the service to promote efficiency and mentor managers and staff to understand their accountability in the process.

Sharon is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Association of Operating Room Nurses. She is a Registered Nurse with an MBA from Brenau University, Atlanta and a certified OR nurse(CNOR).

Fran Tawes, RN, MSN, CNOR - Fran is an experienced OR nurse with over 25 years of experience. She is an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist whose responsibilities has included education, interim OR management, sterile processing, process improvement and compliance to standards of practice and regulatory mandates. She has developed education programs for Perioperative Services, beginning basic OR nursing/intern programs and provided direction and compliance for JC reviews. Fran is an expert in safety, regulatory requirements and staff retention. She has been involved in four Magnet status reviews with consecutive renewals.

Fran has a BSN from the University of Bridgeport, CT and Masters in Nursing from Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA. She is a member of the American Operating Room Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Fran also served as a Captain in United States Air Force. 

Judy Skinner, RN, BS, CNOR - Judy is an experienced OR manager with over 25 years of operating room experience. She has directed numerous process improvement projects for the pretesting, pre-op/holding departments as well as the operating room. She has acted in an interim manager role as part of her consulting responsibilities. Judy has experience conducting education for managers in financial management and budgeting for Perioperative Services. Judy is skilled in "one on one" coaching and mentoring of staff to achieve measurable outcomes and promote their personal growth.

Judy is an RN, BS, CNOR and member or AORN. She has spoken at national conferences on "The Role of the Vendor in the OR" and "Efficiency for a Cataract Program".  

Sandra Shupe, RN, CPAN - Sandy Shupe is an experienced Preop/PACU/Recovery Room manager. Sandy specifically focuses on patient throughput to include the pretest process to the preoperative preparation and completion of paperwork requirements prior to surgery. She has developed and implemented programs to meet patient safety goals to ensure compliance with all SCIP measures. She is an experienced PACU nurse and manager and is excellent teaching PACU staff to triage and care for the Phase I, Phase II and extended recovery patients. Sandy is a registered nurse with her certification in Perianesthesia nursing. She is also an active member of ASPAN and has served as the past President of the local chapter.
