Company History

SBM & Associates was founded in 1998. The company has worked with 30 hospitals to review and improve operational efficiencies, improve utilization of resources, ensure quality, promote collaboration with surgeons and enhance customer / staff satisfaction in surgical services departments.

We have assembled a team whose experience spans all aspects of the clinical/operational processes associated with perioperative surgery. From pre-admission testing through recovery, our integrated process improvement methodology is designed to engage and lead your staff to improved efficiency of perioperative services.

Company Bios

Sharon B. Morselander, RN, MBA, CNOR - Sharon is the founder and President of SBM & Associates. With more than 20 years of hands-on healthcare operations, management, and consulting experience, Sharon’s expertise includes process improvement and restructuring of surgical services, strategic assessment, recommendations, and cost management. In addition, Sharon has experience in work redesign, restructuring, and working with innovative financial models.

Judy Skinner, RN, BS, CNOR - Judy is an experienced OR manager with over 20 years of operating room experience. She has directed numerous process improvement projects for pretesting, prep and holding departments. Judy has experience conducting education for managers in financial management and budgeting for surgical services.

Fran Tawes, RN, MSN, CNOR - Fran is an experienced OR Clinical Nurse Specialist. She has developed education programs for OR staff, beginning basic OR nursing courses, and provided direction and compliance for JCAHO reviews. Fran is an expert in OR safety, regulatory requirements and staff retention.

Sandra Shupe, RN, CPAN - Sandy is a PeriAnesthesia nurse consultant with over 20 years experience in the healthcare industry.  Her experience includes; Manager of PeriAnesthesia Department to include inpatient and outpatient PACU, Outpatient Postoperative Discharge, Extended Care (observation unit) and consulting for PACU services.

Penny L. Dykstra, RN, BS, CNOR - Penny is an experienced Ambulatory Services Manager and OR nurse. She provides perioperative consultative services to hospitals in the area of performance improvement in both inpatient and OP Services. In addition, Penny has experience in ER, extended recovery units, travelers health and hyperbaric medicine.

Pamela L. Lambert, RHIA, CCS - Pam is a health information management consultant with more than 20 years of experience in inpatient hospital coding, compliance and educational services. She has served more than 200 hospital clients in a variety of consulting engagements including DRG Data Quality Assessments, Severity Data Review, Cost Management Program Implementation, Compliance Assessments, JCAHO activities, HIM Department Assessments and Hospital Coding Outsourcing.

Stephanie F. Albright, RHIA, CPC - Stephanie has been in the healthcare industry for over 15 years with vast experience in coding and billing; and physician and healthcare staff education and training. Her area of expertise includes ICD-9-CM, CPT-4 and HCPCS coding in a variety of healthcare settings. She serves several long-standing clients through coding, auditing, education, and training.
